MLLP member Gonçal Garcés Díaz-Munío defended successfully his PhD thesis on “ASR and MT with deep neural networks for open educational resources, parliamentary contents and broadcast media” at Universitat Politècnica de València on 15 October 2024.
Gonçal’s work for his dissertation has focused, quoting its abstract, on “research on automatic speech recognition and machine translation based on deep neural networks in three very active domains: open educational resources, parliamentary contents and broadcast media” (read here the full abstract). Gonçal’s advisors were the MLLP’s Dr Alfons Juan Ciscar and Dr Jorge Civera Saiz.

The examining committee for Gonçal’s PhD defence was made up of Dr Eva Onaindía de la Rivaherrera (Univ. Politècnica de València), Dr Felipe Sánchez Martínez (Universitat d’Alacant) and Dr Miguel Á. del Agua Teba (Microsoft). They awarded Gonçal’s dissertation the qualification of Excellent cum laude.
After his successful PhD defence, Gonçal has earned the title “Doctor en Informàtica” (PhD in Computer Science) according to the Valencian and Spanish university systems.
