MLLP member Juan Daniel Valor Miró will be at the European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning 2015 in Toledo on 15–18 September to present the MLLP platform and the MLLP’s work on “Efficient generation of high-quality multilingual subtitles for video lecture repositories“.
The European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning (EC-TEL) 2015, with the theme Design for Teaching and Learning in a Networked World, will take place in Toledo on 15–18 September, addressing the pressing need to shape learning arrangements in such a way that they exploit the potentials and meet the requirements of a networked world. It is expected to be a unique opportunity for researchers, practitioners, educational developers, and policy makers to address current challenges and advances in the field.
The MLLP’s Juan Daniel Valor Miró will be there to present a demo of the MLLP Transcription and Translation Platform (which you can try for yourself here) and some of the most recent work by the team in this field. The demo is scheduled for Wednesday, 16 September at 14:30 (within the Demo Shootout and Demo Session).
Then, on Thursday, 17 September at 11:30 (within scientific session 4B), Juan Daniel will present the paper “Efficient generation of high-quality multilingual subtitles for video lecture repositories“. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficiency of the manual review process from automatic subtitles in comparison with the conventional generation of video subtitles from scratch. The study is based on user evaluations in the UPV’s Polimedia video lecture repository, for all videos of which the MLLP has automatically generated transcriptions and translations in Spanish, Catalan and English (in the framework of the EU project transLectures). The reported results clearly indicate the convenience of providing automatic subtitles as a first step in the generation of video subtitles and the significant savings in time of up to almost 75% involved in reviewing subtitles.
If you plan on attending EC-TEL 2015, you can check the updated schedule and the locations for each session in their programme. Don’t forget to attend our talks! The MLLP is very pleased to participate in EC-TEL 2015. We look forward to seeing you there!
